Our week at Hectic Manor started out like any other. Hectic Grandson was an absolute bundle of cuteness. He got new cowboy boots and proceeded to parade around the house in his diaper and boots. As always, he was adorable. He’s taken to climbing into everything and anything and then getting out. Then back in. Then out. How he stuffs himself in such small spaces is beyond me. He also got a sink bath, because Hectic Grandma loves giving baths in the sink. He loved it and everybody was taking pictures and videos. Apparently he now thinks he’s a movie star…with paparazzi.
Our old washer died the prior week in a shower of sparks, smoke, and ruined clothes. By Saturday I’d done my research (which would usually take me weeks) and had ordered a new unit from Best Buy. We wanted to buy locally, but the two local places wanted to charge me for delivery, setup, and for hauling off the smoldering pile of junk. Best Buy not only hauled off our old unit, but connected the new one at no additional cost. In addition, we got Best Buy Reward Zone points. I’m collecting them up for either a new camera lens or a new iPad (someday). It was an unexpected perk that was great to get. The new washer is a Samsung 9100. By the end of the day, we had run 11 loads through it, including a full-sized fluffy comforter that we haven’t been able to wash anywhere but at the cleaners. The Hectic Clan made fun of me throughout the day as I reported on the progress of each load and the wonderful amount of clean that emanated from the clothes. Considering that we had nearly a week’s worth of sports-worn clothes in our house, the nice smells were something to appreciate!
I took the plunge and converted to a standing desk this week. It was a lot of work to make space for it, and the rest of the office is sorely in need of attention. To make room for the desk I had to do a lot of maneuvering and relocation. But one corner of the room is usable now. I got to work at the desk for five days and it was invigorating. I was much more productive than I thought I’d be. I kept finding myself engaged in other tasks and wanting to go do some work. Quite honestly, I haven’t wanted to work in quite a while, so this was a fantastic change.
Our raised garden turned one month old this week, so I had to post a before-and-after photo. The garden has only produced banana peppers at this point, but that makes the Minions happy. The Minion movie came out this week, but due to a rotten set of circumstances I haven’t been able to see it yet. I will see it…you can count on it. Whether it’s going to happen in a theater or not is still in debate. I don’t know if they’ll be as excited about the impending crop of tomatoes, but I guess we’ll find out.
Hectic 12 had her last week of the summer volleyball league. They were undefeated going into the final match. They split the match with the other team, but the level of play was much higher than I’d expect from 7th graders. Hectic 12 had a good summer league and is looking forward to tryouts for the middle school team. I’ve been flexing so that my backside is ready for another season of bleacher butt. The things we do for our kids!
Speaking of kids, we got a scary text and call from Hectic 23B on Saturday. You can read about it here. In short, I packed up and drove out to Colorado to take care of her. It’s not the brightest thing to start a drive of 400+ miles as the sun goes down, but you do what you have to do, right? The drive was beautiful, although exhausting. There are several new wind farms that have been completed since my last trip out. They make for outstanding photographs, especially at sunset. As I right this, we’re still searching for a diagnosis for her persistent and severe headache. We’re almost a week in and aren’t really any closer to a resolution. In the meantime, I’m here in beautiful Colorado. At least I get to see the scenery through her town home’s windows.
So thats been our week. Lots going on, as always. We’ve got just a month until school starts, so we’re already making plans for the Fall. As always, a total whirlwind at Hectic Manor!
Eek! Disaster with your old washer – I hope too much wasn’t ruined?? Gosh, what a hectic week! Your poor daughter 🙁 400 miles? And my mum complains about driving 200 to see us!
