Word of the Week: Draconian

Word of the Week

Draconian

We’ve reached the mid-point in the kids’ summer break and I’ve apparently turned into a slave-master. The youngest two, Hectic 12 and Hectic 16, have been busy with sports and camp opportunities for the first half of the summer. Since they were busy, I let them slide with some of their chores around the house. Unlike in past years though, I’m trying to get them back into the swing of helping the family out before school starts back up in mid-August. As several family members migrate back to college, I think it’s reasonable to expect that the younger two pitch in and help out. Hopefully smaller numbers in the house will reduce the amount of stuff that tends to accumulate. If we each do a little bit every day, we should have a much neater and cleaner environment here at Hectic Manor.

When I mentioned the increased duties the youngest Hectic Clan members made if fairly clear that they consider my ideas draconian. Unfortunately for them, they’re wrong. I’m being more than reasonable. Having let them slack off for a little bit has made them resistant to helping out. That will change, or they will learn what true draconian measures look like.

Feel free to add draconian to your vocabulary. Just be sure to use it correctly, it means unusually severe or cruel. I’m neither, but sometimes I’m viewed that way!
